Euros 2015 - BB final: report and results

Foto UEG (European Union of Gymnastics)

In my opinion, the beam final was the most disappointing of the meet. Maria Kharenkova was the favourite for the title (last year she placed first), but fell and lost some of her connections. Besides her, also three other finalists fell. However, I'm happy for the athletes who claimed the podium.
This final proves once again that beam is the most unpredictable apparatus. Any preview is never respected!

Analysis of the routines

1. Andreea Munteanu (ROU) - Gold

Andreea Munteanu finally gets a gold on her favourite apparatus. Thanks to her performance, the Romanian team doesn't come back home with zero medals - it would have been the worst result for Romanian history at Europeans. She has nice difficulty and execution, besides some balance checks and the not perfect landing. However, she managed to not get too nervous after the other gymnasts' falls.

2. Rebecca Downie (GBR) - Silver

What a nice routine for Becky Downie. This gymnast is really growing on me. She went to Montpellier for bars and beam, and achieved the silver on both. I really liked her confidence throughout the routine. Such a pity she didn't get the gold for only 0.660 points.

3. Claire Martin (FRA) - Bronze

France medals at home! I'm really glad Claire Martin was on the podium: she's extremely elegant and graceful, everything she does seems effortless. Chapeau!

4. Claudia Fragapane (GBR)

Claudia managed to not repeat the disastrous routine of the all-around final and presented a good routine. I don't really like her on beam, but I have to say she has a beatiful layout when she hits.

5. Vasiliki Millousi (GRE)

Such a pity for the greek goddess on beam. She is an event finalist and she's thirty years old! She has a beautiful style and an innate grace. I'm really sad she fell off her dismount, I would have loved to see her on the podium.

6. Maria Kharenkova (RUS)

Maria didn't confirm last year's success. It's a pity, because the gold was definitely hers. However, she did well to get up again and execute well the rest of the routine. Nevertheless, after this meet she confirms her status of best beam worker of Russia.

7. Pauline Schaefer (GER)

Another surprise: no German gymnast qualified to the bars final, but Sophie Schaefer conquered the beam final. Gorgeous turn, such a pity she fell on her signature element.

8. Sanne Wevers (NED)

Sanne is a gym fans' favourite for her beautiful and difficult turns. She was nervous and fell. Good experience for her, though. And she's still coming home with a medal on bars!
