Maria Paseka claimed the title and didn't let all-around champion Giulia Steingruber get her third consecutive gold on this apparatus. I remind you that Maria was not selected for these Championships at first! The bronze medal goes to Ksenia Afanaseva, who had a good first international competition after the recovery from an injury.
It's incredible thinking that at last year's Euros and Worlds the Russian level on vault was relatively low, while this year the Russian athletes has shown some of the most difficult saltos in the world!
The home favorite presented a nice double twisting yurchenko, with a good amplitude. The second salto was much easier.
Here is the analysis of every performance!
1. Maria Paseka (RUS) - Gold
I'm actually really happy for Masha's success. She looks like a new Paseka: not only she showed a great preparation despite being selected at last minute, but she also presented huge improvements on her execution. And her saltos are extremely difficult!
She has a Cheng (D 6.4) as first salto: there are some form breaks such as leg separation after the block, slightly bent knees and a hop on the landing, but it's a good vault overall.
The actual surprise came with the second salto: her Amanar has extremely improved! It's not even comparable to her 2012 Olympics execution: now she has more elevation, her legs are stick together and only slightly bent and also the landing is much better. That's a well deserved gold medal!

2. Giulia Steingruber (SUI) - Silver
I'm sad that Giulia couldn't get her third consecutive gold medal on this apparatus due to her lower difficulty. Her saltos were beautiful, though: her Rudi (D 6.2), her "signature" vault, has really improved and she now executes it flawlessly. Her double twisting yurchenko, despite the past struggle to learn it, is very high and precise, except the step on the landing. Congrats, Giulia!

3. Ksenia Afanasyeva (RUS) - Bronze
Ksenia has just come back from an injury, but sheproved she's still a champion. She surprisingly presented the Amanar and it was more than good, except the landing on the red line. The second salto was well done, not excellent though. I think that with two final-worthy vaults, her usual gorgeous floor and her great experience she is again a rock for the Russian team on its road to Glasgow and Rio.

4. Noel Van Klaveren (NED)
I'm extremely happy for this nice performance! Noel has just come back to competitions after being away for a year, due to her father's cancer... Fortunately he is healed now, and her comeback couldn't have been better!

5. Elissa Downie (GBR)
Britain's new senior Ellie Downie has a great power combined to a precise execution on this apparatus. I love her DTY! She placed 5th due to the relatively low difficulty.

6. Claudia Fragapane (GBR)
Claudia is an extremely powerful gymnast, but I don't like her very much on vault. Her execution is too sloppy, especially on the flight phase and landing.

8. Teja Belak (SLO)
Tow falls for her. Such a pity!
